Information below supplied by Gary Wilson gary1592@charter.net July 2004 Joseph Jiles Wilson, youngest child of George and Nancy Wilson. Joseph was born 13 May 1849 in Randolph Co., AL. He married Susan Rebecca Brown about 1869, probably in Clay or Randolph County. He was a farmer and Baptist preacher. I have not yet been able to determine Susan's parents. Joseph and Susan had five children: (1) John M. , b. ca. 1871 (left home as a young man and was not heard from again) (2) Christopher Columbus (known as Uncle Bud), b. April 1875 in Heard Co., GA; d. 26 August 1959 in Johnson Co., TN (3) Mary Elizabeth (Lizzie), b. 8 June 1877 in Heard Co., GA; . m. James E. Harris; d. 5 September 1960 (4) Van Buren (my grandfather), b. 19 August 1879 in Heard Co., GA; m. Julia Pearl Wilson (no relation), 15 September 1907 in Jefferson Co., AL; a carpenter by trade; d. 28 September 1941 in Jefferson Co., AL (5) Marilla ("Rillie"), b. 26 March 1882; m. Thomas Caldwell; d. 19 August 1979 Joseph and Susan moved from Clay Co., AL to Heard Co., GA in the early 1870's, then probably back to Clay Co. about 1880. At the time of the 1900 census they lived in Jefferson Co., AL, where they also lived at the time of the 1910 census. At the time of the 1920 census they were in DeKalb County. In addition to being a Baptist preacher, Joseph was also active in the Sacred Harp Singing. Joseph died on 17 September 1922 at Fairview, Cullman Co., AL at the age of 73 years within a few days following a fall from a mule. He and Susan (who died on 7 January 1929 in Jefferson Co.) are buried in unmarked graves in the Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery.
